The matins liturgy, which begins with the words: "Lord, open my mouth and my lips will proclaim your glory," marks the beginning of the day. Awakening at daybreak promotes silence and deepens one's faith in God.
After lauds a short period of personal prayer praising the glory of God expresses gratitude for the gift of a new day. A little free time follows the celebration of the most important liturgy of the day: the eucharist. Breakfast and work in the service of the monastery conclude the morning. |
